Let us Deliver the Jobs to You. Outsourcing is a BIG business. In fact, outsourcing is on track to be valued at US$479.3 billion by 2016! That is nothing to scoff at, so how come you never hear much about outsourcing? Many major corporations outsource a large chunk of their business, but will go out of their way to keep that a secret! Why? Well, outsourcing, for some reason, it still a bit of a consumer taboo. Smart business owners and fortune 500 corporations have been doing it for years successfully, but there is no denying the fact that a negative sentiment still exists in regards to overseas workers. Americans in particular seem to be the most bitter on the topic of outsourcing. Jobs in the USA are scarce in today's economy, and with jobs popping up overseas right and left, it does make sense that some people are left with a sour taste in their mouth. I have spent a lot of time in the Philippines now, and hired employees with experience handling accounts for companies like Wells Fargo, Virgin Mobile, Quantus Airlines, and more. However, these major corporations have their accounts handled by outsourcing companies, they do not open up their own facilities. Why is this? The answer is simple. Privacy. A multi-billion dollar corporation could surely shell out the cash necessary to build their own call center in the Philippines. So why don't they? They want to protect their name, and don't necessarily want to make it public information that they outsource their operations overseas. This option also allows them greater flexibility. If their account is not handled well with one outsourcing company, they can simply move the account to a competitor relatively easily without having to rebuild their office or change locations. My Take? I think that the world is going to get used to outsourcing. In fact, I don't think they have a choice. We live in a global economy now,a world where your call from Texas can get routed to anywhere in the world in under a second. The developing countries that we outsource to are just that: developing. Developing at a rapid pace, in fact. The Philippines in particular has been growing so quickly, and with more and more educated people entering the field with better infrastructure in place to handle global business, this industry isn't going to stop. In fact, I personally believe that outsourcing is just the first step towards what will eventually be a 100% global economy where it doesn't make a difference who you speak to or where you buy your products - we will all be one in the same system.
